Rego Check QLD — How to Check Vehicle Registration in Queensland

In Queensland, the free registration check is run by the Department of Transport and Main Roads. Search by registration number or VIN and get the result instantly.

What the free QLD check shows

One thing it explicitly does not show: the registered owner's identity. The Queensland Government states this directly on the check page.

What you'll need

You can't search by chassis number, and cancelled registrations can't be checked this way. There's also a free official QLD Rego Check app (Department of Transport and Main Roads) for iPhone and Android if you prefer checking on your phone.

Steps

  1. Open the official Queensland check using the button below.
  2. Choose whether to search by registration number or VIN.
  3. Enter the number and submit.
  4. Review the registration status, vehicle description, and expiry details.

Run the check on the official portal:

Buying a used car in Queensland? The free check doesn't show finance owing, write-off history, or stolen status. Before you buy, do the official $2 PPSR vehicle search at ppsr.gov.au — Queensland's own check page recommends it to used-car buyers too.

QLD rego check FAQs

Is the Queensland rego check free?

Yes — both the online check and the official QLD Rego Check app are free.

Will it tell me who owns the car?

No. The Queensland check page states plainly: "Information about the registered owner is not provided by this service." No legitimate site can show you this — be wary of any that claim to.

Can I check an older car by VIN?

VIN searches only work for vehicles made since 1 January 1989. For older vehicles, search by the registration number instead.

What if the registration was cancelled?

Cancelled registrations can't be checked through the online tool. In that case, contact the Department of Transport and Main Roads directly.
